READING THE SEA

What do these values mean?

Wave height & period

Hs and Wdir are shown under the same names used in the station output. Hmax is the maximum recorded wave height. Tp is the peak wave period; Tz is the zero-crossing period. The values are those exported by the existing Datawell processor. Individual waves can exceed the significant wave height.

Direction & spread

A direction of 270° means waves arrive from the west. Wspread describes the directional spread around the measured mean direction. All directions on this page use true north.

Data freshness

The timestamp is the measurement time, not the time you opened this page. Older records are labelled delayed. A recent timestamp describes freshness only; it does not confirm data quality.
